As human beings we want to believe the good things happen to good people. Well, Liz Woodward is proof that that hope is real. Liz is a waitress at New Jersey’s Route 130 Diner. One day while working, a few firefighters sat in her section. She over heard them talking about how they had been battling a fire for the last 12 hours and that this was their first meal since the fire broke out.
Liz being the awesome person that she is, decided the only right thing to do was buy them breakfast for their heroism. “All that I did was pay for their breakfast and I didn’t think that anything would come about it besides that they would just leave with a smile.”
Needless to say the firefighters were very grateful and took to social media to thank Liz and post the picture of their receipt.
The note reads:
“Your breakfast is on me today – Thank you for all that you do; for serving others and for running into the places everyone else runs away from.
No matter your role, you are courageous, brave, and strong… thank you for being badass everyday! Fueled by fire & driven by courage – what an example you are. Get some rest =) -Liz
The story could end there and still be pretty amazing, but it doesn’t.
When the local papers reported on the story they tagged to the end a story mentioning that Liz’s father was a paraplegic and that the family was trying to raise $17k to buy a van to make transportation easier for her father.
That’s when the goodness cam flowing back around. The Hainesport fire department got as many people as possible involved to help raise money for good ol Liz. Instead of just hitting the $17k goal, they crushed it. The firefighters were able to help rais over $60k for Liz and her family.
The moral of the story is pretty simple. Be nice to others. It really does come back around.
