Capsula Mundi is an eco-friendly alternative to being buried in a coffin.
The idea is for a deceased human body to provide sustenance for a living memorial in their honor.
The body is placed inside the pod in the fetal position then buried under ground. Then a tree is planted on top of the pod so it’s roots can soak in the nutrients as nourishment.
Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel are the pair who came up with the Capsula Mundi.

Instead of cold hard concrete or marble headstones, your loved ones can be memorialized with a living tree that they themselves provide the livelihood of.
